AI in the software factory: what changes (and what doesn’t) in delivery

Lúmen Corp5 min read

Coding assistants, test generation and automatic documentation are already part of many teams’ daily work. In a software factory, the question is no longer "should we use AI?" but "how do we use it without losing quality?".

What changes

  • Speed on repetitive work: project scaffolding, standard integrations, migrations and unit tests take a fraction of the time.
  • Living documentation: code summaries, release notes and user guides ship with every delivery instead of being left for later.
  • Exploring alternatives: comparing two technical approaches became cheap, and decisions are better grounded.

What doesn’t change

  • Architecture: deciding service boundaries, data models and scaling strategy still requires experience and business context.
  • Review: generated code must be read, tested and understood by someone who will answer for it in production.
  • Security and data: what goes into a prompt can leave the company. Clear policies on customer data are mandatory.
AI increases the team’s capacity. It does not outsource accountability.

How to adopt it safely

Start with low-risk, high-volume tasks such as tests, documentation and integration code. Define review standards, record what was generated with AI help and track quality metrics such as production defects and review time. That way, speed comes with predictability, which is what the client is really buying.
